The Chevrolet Colorado seems poised to acquire a more capable version of off-road with the company previewing a potential sense of design with a robust concept Wednesday Auto Show in Los Angeles.

ZR2 called the Colorado, the concept returns the name used on off-road-tuned models S-10 Blazer and the years 1990 and 2000. The ZR2 has a track that is wider than the four Colorado Z71 inches, which is currently the more capable of off-road line. The ZR2 is equipped with a new grille, power-dome hood, wheel flares and custom off-road style fascia which reduces overhead and flip-out aluminum tow hooks. Everything is slathered in a shade called outdoor green Cyprus.

Are mono-tube shock absorbers rear coilovers electronic differential lock and front, and skid plates. ALL rolls (or ramp) 275 / 65R18 off-road tires wrapped around aluminum wheels measuring 18 inches. There is also a set of spare tire mounted in the bed, which has a spray coating in jack and 48 inches if things go against him on the track.

"You have Colorado to a whole new place," Mark Reuss, General Motors vice president of global product development, told the reveal.

Power comes from the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine making 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This engine will arrive later in the year in the production Colorado.

While the ZR2 remains only a concept, it suggests a new way to Colorado - one we hope Chevy decides to take.
